The Immigration Bureau arrested 45 Chinese businessmen, including 34 men and 11 women, on the grounds of "illegal trade in textiles" in the Nigeria's northern city of Kano.

Our reporter learned from the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria that the Immigration Department of Nigeria was concentrating on the illegal foreign settlement and employment of foreign personnel throughout the country.

Nearly 100 Chinese citizens have been detained in Lagos, Kano and other places.

The textile market in Kano is the largest textile trading market in Nigeria and even West Africa. There are hundreds of Chinese shops selling textiles in the market.

Traders in Nigeria neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad often purchase here.

Emanuel Blasco, director of Nigeria Kano Immigration Bureau, confirmed the news to the media.

He accused these Chinese businessmen of exploiting the market like "scavengers" and robbed them of jobs that should belong to Nigeria's locals.

But he denied that it was an action against the Chinese.

He said that Nigeria welcomed and supported the Chinese people to invest in Entrepreneurship and conduct normal trade activities, but never allowed to compete in the market with Nigerians.

He said the arrests were part of a large-scale crackdown on illegal business activities, and Nigeria will continue to crack down on such illegal businessmen.

Subsequently, similar arrests will be launched in cities such as Lagos, Kaduna and Onica, and the arrested businessmen will face the fate of being deported.

Since the 90s of last century, trade between China and Nepal has been growing steadily.

Data show that about twenty thousand Chinese live in Nigeria, and the number of Africans including Nigeria may reach 200 thousand.

According to the press, Nigeria has 250 textile enterprises in the last century. However, due to the long-term shortage of domestic electricity, infrastructure and production equipment, and other factors, the federal government has been allowed to import foreign textile products in order to meet domestic demand, so far there are only 15 left in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government implements quota management for foreign workers in order to protect their employment and industrial industries.

In order to protect the textile industry in Nigeria, Nepal law has the "Prohibition of importing textiles from abroad".

That is to say, foreign talents who have obtained the visa of work quota will have the qualification and right to work in Nigeria to carry out business activities in Nigeria.

After knowing the incident, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and the Consulate General in Lagos had convened an emergency meeting at the first time to launch the emergency response mechanism, and made solemn representations to the relevant departments of Nigeria, such as the Ministry of foreign affairs and the immigration department.

Ding Jianhua, director of the Political Department of the embassy, told reporters that the embassy and the general consulate in Lagos had sent members to the site to visit the Chinese citizens detained, and urged the Nepal to take action to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese people.
